Last year, we had above average market returns, S&P 24.5. Since 2002, the index CAGR (compound annual growth rate) has been 8.3 with a Max Draw down during this period of -55.2.
I find the correlation of where we are now and where we were in 1980 to be eerily similar and veeeeery interesting…
Ronald Reagan’s victory in 1980 was anticipated and celebrated by Wall Street and the country. He was seen as a “transformative” candidate and held the promise of solving all the problems facing our country at that time.
I would argue that President Reagan was a transformative president, but the first two years were not a pleasant time to be a stock investor.
