This visual from Visual Capitalist made me think about all our daily uses of oil…
First, Thanks to Visual Capitalist and the US Energy Information Agency… what? Why do we need a “US Energy Information Agency” and how much taxpayer money is that costing us each year? Take a guess before moving on…
$126.8 million for the Energy Information Administration per a google search… Ok, now I am really distracted with this train of thought… In FY 2024, the Department of Energy (DOE) had $123.52 Billion distributed among its 5 sub-components.
$123,520,000,000 in tax payer money this year for the US DEPT of Energy…
$123.52 BILLION…
Now I am more than distracted, but the point of this started out to be about the US is leading the world in oil production and WHAT IS MADE WITH OIL!
I went looking for a general list of everyday items we use that are petroleum based and found some really interesting lists but none that I found to be nearly complete… until I found www.badassworkgear.com
https://badassworkgear.com/list-of-products-made-from-oil-petroleum/
This is far from being ALL PRODUCTS MADE WITH PETROLEUM, but it was the most complete I found, plus I love the name of the company…
Scroll to the table of contents and have some fun seeing what we use.
Finally, if you have made it this far, thanks, look around you and think of what your life would be like if we didn’t have petroleum in our lives.
Oil is not a four-letter word!
